Consistency is the whole requirement
For a grower, the risk in a growing medium is rarely that one delivery is poor. It is that deliveries differ from each other, because a crop programme is built around the medium behaving the same way every time.
That reframes what you are buying. You are not buying a specification, you are buying the repeatability of a specification, and those are bought with different questions.
Questions that buy repeatability
- Will the material for each delivery come from the same preparation route as the sample I approved.
- What varies between deliveries, and within what range.
- What checks are done before despatch, and what record of them will I receive.
- If the material has to change, how much notice will I get before it ships.
Choose the format around your labour
Compressed blocks put more material into a container and more work into your site. Loose bagged material reverses that. For a grower running to a planting calendar, the labour question usually decides it, because hydration work lands exactly when the planting work does.
The 150 L and 200 L bag formats exist for this reason. The figures refer to the approximate expanded volume of growing media after hydration, with the exact yield confirmed during quotation.
Plan the cadence, not just the order
- Map deliveries against your planting calendar, then work backwards to order dates.
- Say early if you need a repeating programme rather than single orders.
- Agree what buffer stock you hold, and where.
- Confirm what happens if a vessel is delayed, before it is.
